Man accused of impregnating niece arrested
Kaup, 20 Mar 2015: In a shameful incident reported form Kaup, a 34-year-old man has been arrested on charges of raping and impregnating his 22-year-old niece.
The accused Thirumalesh, a migrant worker from Chitradurga was arrested by Kaup police led by Circle Inspector Sunil Naik on Thursday, March 19.
According to the sources, the accused who is said to be victim’s maternal uncle raped the victim while he had taken her for temple visits in Bengaluru in March 2014. The girl was thrown out from the house after learning she was pregnant. The victim had returned home alone as the accused was absconding.
The pregnant girl who was found loitering in Karkala was taken care by a temple priest who also looked after her delivery in Hubballi as he was worried about the society.
The incident came to the notice of Child Welfare Committee (CWC) members after the public complained about the girl as she had returned to Karkala along with her baby. The members, who raided priest’s house, took the mother and the baby into custody and interrogated the priest.
Finally a case was registered against the accused at the Karkala police station by the CWC members. The mother and child were then moved to a Stay Home at Nittur.
The case which was being probed by Karkala Circle Inspector Naykar was then transferred to Kaup station. The police team who visited Hosadurga arrested the accused.
Thirumalesh, the father of three children is said to have confessed to the crime during interrogation. Though Thirumalesh said that it was consensual, the victim alleged that she was raped.
