Bantwal: Navoor villagers set an example for Swacch Bharat

Bantwal, 17 Mar 2015: The students holding play cards, stating it’s not for law, cleanliness for health, cleanliness for self respect, while the men and women cleaned the village. It’s a rare incident reported from Navoor village near here.

 

The mass awareness campaign began from Canara Bank circle to Maidala Vishnumurti temple at the limits of Navoor gram panchayat in collaboration with Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala Rural Development Project (SKDRDP). The hundreds of women members of SKDRDP promoted self-help-groups and men cleaned the road and at the vicinity of bus stand.

 

 

SKDRDP Dakshina Kannada and Kodagu district director Sitaram Shetty was the chief guest, said that mass awareness can lead to clean village, town, state and the nation. The cleanliness drive by the villagers should lead to clean nation, said Shetty.

 

Malaria control officer Jayaram Poojary said that one should have self interest along with societal interest. One should avoid dumping garbage outside of one’s property. The heap of garbage and effluents in the neighbourhood may lead to contagious diseases, cautioned Poojary.

 

TP vice president Vilasini Shantaveera Poojary inaugurated the cleanliness campaign.

 

SKDRDP Bantwal taluk project officer Sunita Naik, Navoor gram panchayat president Baby Suvarna, vice president Jyoti, member Sadanand Navoor, panchayat development officer Abubakkar, panchayat secretary Shekar, organic farming officer Priyanka and others were present.
