Mangaluru: St Aloysius College Journalism Dept organizes awareness on cleanliness & hygiene

Mangaluru, 12 Mar 2015: The department of journalism, St Aloysius College (Autonomous) organized an awareness program on cleanliness and hygiene at Makkala Thangudhama, Kapikad, Bejai hee on Wednesday March 11 at 4:30 pm.
According to WHO, ‘Diarrheal disease is the second leading cause of death in children under five years old, and is responsible for killing around 760 000 children every year.’
Diarrheal diseases are linked to contaminated water, lack of sanitation or inadequate hygiene. This program sought to convey to children the importance of cleanliness in maintaining good health.
The program began with an ice breaking session where the children participated in a few games. Then a demonstration informed the children on the techniques of washing hands and brushing teeth. This was followed by a skit that was both entertaining as well as informative. At the end of the program soaps were distributed to ensure that what was taught will be implemented. 45 students participated in the programme.
Department of Journalism
The department of journalism of St Aloysius College is one of the more dynamic departments in the college today and believes in imparting practical education to the students and equipping them with the skills and knowledge required for working in the field.
Towards that end, the department organizes various workshops, seminars, competitions, publishes in house journals, newsletters, short films and documentaries throughout the year by the students all geared towards providing a practical approach in addition to traditional classroom teaching.
