Mangaluru: New technology to modernize vented dams in district – Minister Shivaraj

Mangaluru, Dec 04, 2014: The vented dams in the Mangalore division (Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Uttar Kannada districts) of small scale irrigation department will have the  new technology installed in crest gates in the vents instead of the trivial wooden planks which need to replace once in 2 years.

 

The state minor irrigation minster Shivaraj Thangadagi briefed about the new technology  to the media persons here on Wednesday December 3.

 

 

‘These crest gates will be automated ones and long-lasting as they are made from a special material called Fibre Re-enforced Plastic. It operates on the set water level. This technology has been provided by Godbole Corporation and mainly installed in the vented dams constructed to prevent the flow of salt water into the reservoir that holds sweet water and hence preventing the crops in the basin as well,’ said minister Shivaraj.

 

‘On pilot basis this will be implemented in Senapura in Udupi @ Rs 12 crore and after analysing the efficiency, it will be implemented in all vented dams of Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Uttara Kannada,’, said minister Shivaraj.

 

Yettinahole to be implemented

 

‘Even though the proposed Yettinahole project as a whole does not come under his department, the 528 ponds will be constructed in the other side of Western ghats under his department and tender has been called for the first stage of the project already, said minister Shivaraj.
