Workshop on RTE Act held at St Philomena High School

Puttur, Oct 14, 2014: The Catholic Board of Education and Mai De Deus Educational Institutions, here jointly organised a workshop on Right to Education at St Philomena High School, here on Monday October 13.
‘The Right to Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act or Right to Education Act (RTE) is an Act of the Parliament of India enacted on 4 August 2009, which describes the modalities of the importance of free and compulsory education for children between 6 and 14 in India under article 21a of the Indian Constitution. Education being the fundamental right of every child, it is the duty of the parents to see that their children take advantage of this law,’ said Fr Alfred J Pinto, correspondent of Mai De Deus Educational Institutions.
The resource person, Robinson D’Souza, former secretary to government of Karnataka, department of law gave an insight on free and compulsory education, prevention of sexual harassment and punishment thereof.
The assistant parish priest of Mai De Deus parish Fr George Crasta was also present.
This programme was organised for all the male staff of educational institutions under Catholic Board of Education.
The headmaster of St Philomena High School, Oswold Rodrigues welcomed the gathering. Rajashekar B compered the programme.
