Murder of Mescom engineer: Mangalore police arrest two

Mangalore, 06 Oct 2014: City Police arrested two, who are involved in the murder of Jagadish K, executive engineer of Mangalore Electricity Supply Company (Mescom), and murder of an elderly woman in the city.

 

The arrested have been identified as Siddappa (22), a resident of Shirasangi in Savadatti taluk of Belgaum district and Rafeeq (27) of Nittoli in Davanagere. The duo is involved in seven cases including murder and theft registered in Barke, Urwa and Mangalore East police stations. Gold ornaments, a revolver (which is suspected to be stolen), 16 live rounds and Rs 5,000 were seized from the accused. The investigation teams is yet to find more gold ornaments, which is suspected to be pawned in private finance companies.

 

The accused are involved in the murder of Jagadish and Susheela P Shah (75), mother of Sandeep Shah, a city-based stockbroker. While Jagadish was found murdered at his house on Jail Road at Bejai on September 21, Susheela’s body was found at her residence in Alake in the city during wee hours on August 1.

 

City police commissioner R Hithendra told reporters that Siddappa and Refeeq had committed murder for gain. The accused have been produced before the court, he added.

 

Jagadish, who was posted as executive engineer (commercial) at the company’s head office here few days prior to the murder, was residing at his home with wife Bharathi. The accused had gained entry inside the house by opening a locked terrace door on the first floor. Jagadish was sleeping in the bedroom on the ground floor. Alerted by noise in the house, Jagadish is said to have asked his wife to alert their neighbours. The accused had struck a forceful blow on the right side of the neck with a sharp edged object leading to massive blood loss. The accused had used the same route they entered the house to make good their escape, police sources said.

 

Meanwhile, Susheela was murdered by the accused by slitting her throat using pointed weapon. The accused had stolen gold and silver articles worth Rs 2.65 lakh. The miscreants also had stolen the car of Susheela’s son Sandeep that was parked near the house. The car was later found abandoned near KSRTC stand in Bejai, sources added.
