Lokayukta police raid tourism dept official related to bribe

Mangalore, 11 Sep 2014: The Lokayukta team led by sub-inspector Vijaya Prasad and Dilip Kumar raided assistant director of tourism department Jitendranath’s office, located in MCC commercial complex, Lalbagh here on Thursday September 11, on charges demand bribe related to issuing subsidy to operate a tourist taxi to one applicant.
A person named Rakesh (name changed) hailing from Puttur had applied for Rs 2 lac subsidy meant for minority communities to take self employment from the tourism department on March 20. As per the procedure, he was supposed to get a printed copy of the sanction letter. Meanwhile, a girl from the office of Jitendranath called Rakesh, and Jitendranat demanded a bribe of Rs 15,000 and finally both of them agreed for Rs 7,000.
Rakesh informed the Lokayukta police about the bribe on Wednesday September 10, while Lokayukta laid the trap by sending Rakesh with the cash that Jitendranath did not touch as he might have suspected foul play.
The mobile conversation between Rakesh and Jitendranath will be considered as the evidence. It is said that the girl who had spoken to Rakesh has consented as witness against the officer.
Further investigations are underway.
