Puttur: Teachers’ Day celebrations at St Philomena College

Puttur, 9 Sep 2014: Teachers are extremely important facet of the society. Teacher is the creator of the future of every student who is the future generation of the country. So, teachers certainly have a significant mark on the development of our country. It is one of the noblest professions.
Our former President Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan himself suggested to celebrate his birthday as Teacher’s day on September 5. He himself being a scholar knew the importance of the profession. In view of this the whole country is saluting the profession to mark the contribution made by the teachers.
Teachers Day was celebrated at St Philomena College with great pomp.
Fr Antony Prakash Monteiro, campus director and chairman of PG studies & research Centre said, ‘The success of a student largely depends on the teacher. Therefore the teacher has a major role to play in the character formation of the students,’ said Fr Monteiro. He urged the teachers to understand their responsibility and be committed to their work.
I B Sc student Ananya spoke about the significance of the teachers she said that an individual with a goal and a guru can reach greater heights in life.
The principal Professor Leo Norohna called upon the teachers to realise their importance and work in tune with the ethos laid down by our great leaders like Dr Radhakrishnan.
Students entertained teachers with a beautiful performance. The teachers enjoyed the day thoroughly and the day ended with the happy note.
The student council secretary Jostin Vinroy welcomed the gathering. The president Srinivas Tamboli proposed vote fo thanks. The joint secretary Radhika Suresh compered the programme.
