Udupi: Religious Concept indeed inspires great movements - Poornima S Nayak

Udupi, 31 Aug 2014: ‘We see the followers of same religion are fighting overseas because of differences in ideologies. Ganapati Bappa Morya…! Slogan was as powerful like Vande Mataram that was manifested by freedom fighter Balagangadhar Tilak by igniting religious sentiments among Indian towards freedom struggle through Ganeshotsav celebrations. The Indian context is indeed helping in organizing for a set goal, said artiste and litterateur Poornima Suresh Nayak Udupi.
Poornima was speaking during the religious discourse that was held during thirty-fourth public celebration of Ganeshotsav at Shirva, near here on Saturday August 30.
‘Ganeshotsav fosters national unity, presence of omnipotent God,’ said Poornima.
M C Ramesh Mandya, son of the late Chennappa, sub-inspector of Shirva police station who was the inspiration to organize public celebration of Ganeshotsav in Shirva, near here 34 years ago, said that his family is fortunate that the people of Shirva still remember his father passed away 26 years ago.
The Samiti president K Sundar Prabhu welcomed the gathering. The secretary Ravindra Shetty Kollabettu read the report. The talented students were honored on the same occasion. The late Kamalaksha Shenoy scholarship was distributed to poor students.
N Radhakrishna Prabhu introduced the dignitaries. The vice president Tammanna Poojary was present on the dais. H S Gopal compered the programme. K Sadashiv, Prabhakar Rao assisted in the programme. Venkatesh Kamat proposed vote of thanks.
