Jaycees environment project Beejamrut gets overwhelming response from Belman School

Karkal, 14 Jun 2014: The students of St Joseph’s Higher Primary School, Belman, near here responded overwhelmingly for ‘Beejamrut’ and ‘Vidhyamrut’ projects that was that was launched by Jaycees Club International (JCI) zonal president Chandrashekar Nair Subramanya led by JCI – Belman unit president Sarvajna Tantri and JCI zonal director Punaru Raghunat Nayak.  These projects were launched in order to promote conservation of eco-environment and to support education of poor talented students.

 
The temperature in the locality of Belman has crossed 40 degree Celsius in the recent past, owing to widening of access road linking Pudubidri – Belman – Karkal, as centuries old trees that dotted the road were felled.  It has depleted the aquifers and also outbreak of contagious diseases.  The thermal power plants and other mega industries in coastal district will further cause environmental destruction in the coming days.

At this backdrop, JCI organized competition to collect the seeds of different plants that can be nurtured to grow as trees, in order to educate the students on eco-environment.  The students were encouraged to take interest in collecting vegetable seeds to grow crops in the school garden and at the backyard of their homes to be able to celebrate Vanamahotsav in an unique manner.

 
Class VII student Jenishya Noronha and Class IV student Lisha Pinto secured first place in collecting seeds of fruits and wild trees other than vegetable seeds.  Class VII student Stairan secured second and Class III student Sakshi secured third place. Meanwhile, in this process, over 1,000 seeds were pooled of 53 varieties of different fruits and trees.   The sawing of vegetable seeds in the school garden has already begun.

 
The motion was offered for ‘Vidhyamruta’ project that entitles to identify scrool dropouts in the age group of 6 years to 14 years, while JCI will support the education of such children.  The scholarship was handed over to Nandalike Ganesh Acharya, poor student who passed with distinction in II PUC at Government Pre-University College, Belman.  MSRS College governing council assured to support the degree course of Nandalike Ganesh Acharya.

JCI president Sarvajna Tantri presided the programme.

 
JCI zonal director Punaru Raghunat Nayak, entrepreneur Deepak Kamat, secretary Subash Kumar Nandalike, the school head teacher Sr Monica were present at the dais.

 
The school pupils’ leader J Nishya Noronha welcomed the gathering.  Neha Nayak compered the programe.

 
The elocution on environment, group prayers, etc were held on the occasion.

The sweets were distributed to all the students.
