Record 81.19 pc pass in SSLC

Bangalore, May 13, 2014 :The State showed a marked improvement in its performance in the Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) examination 2014, as compared to that of previous years by recording an overall pass percentage of 81.19.

As many as 6,60,515 students out of a total of 8,13,498 who appeared for the exams have passed, going by the results that were announced on Monday.

 In 2013, the pass percentage was 77.47 and data provided by the Karnataka Secondary Education Examination Board shows that over the last 11 years, this figure has hovered between 46.84 (2003) and 76.13 (2012).

 

Also yet again, girls did considerably better than boys. Out of 3,80,965 girls who appeared for the exam, 3,25,590 (85.46 per cent) have passed, while out of a total 4,32,533 boys who appeared, only 3,34,925 (77 per cent) could get through.

The highest score of 622 out of 625 was secured by Nithya Saurabhi B A from Marimallappa’s High School, Mysore. The second spot was shared by four students who scored 621, while five students who got 620 were in third place.

In the Kannada medium, the highest score of 617 was secured by Vishalu Sanganbasav Gadag from Pragati High School, Chikkodi in Belgaum district.

One student scored 615, while another secured 614, while two each shared the score of 613 and 611. Three registered a total of 612.

Moreover, students, both private and regulars, from rural areas once again outperformed their urban counterparts. Out of the 4,31,525 rural students, 3,68,241 (85.33 per cent) have passed. On the other hand, of the 3,40,704 urban students, only 2,75,419 (80.84 per cent) cleared the exam.

While Chikkodi maintained its position as the district with the best pass percentage at 91.7 per cent, things remained unchanged for Bidar as the worst performing district with 75.35 per cent.

Joida taluk in Uttara Kannada registered the best pass percentage of 97.26 per cent in the State and Gauribidanuru taluk in Chikkaballapur, with a pass percentage of 64.07, had the lowest pass percentage.

As many as 2,023 schools across the State have recorded 100 per cent results. Of these, 628 are government schools and 163 are government-aided schools, said Primary and Secondary Education Minister Kimmane Ratnakar. A total of 17 schools recorded zero pass percentage.
