Mulky: Woman, son killed in explosion

Mulky, 04 May 2014: Two persons were killed and three others were seriously injured in an explosion at a house near a stone quarry at Nelligudde near Kinnigoli about 40km from here on Sunday.

 

The deceased have been identified as Erichamma (53) and her son Paraman Uttandy (25) from Salem, Tamil Nadu. The injured are Nagaraj (34), his wife Yashoda (28) and their child Pooja (10), all hailing from Shimoga. The impact of the blast was such that two rooms of the house the deceased resided was destroyed in the blast and the bodies were mutilated beyond recognition. The injured have been admitted to a private hospital in Kinnigoli and are said to be out of danger.

 

Police said the reason for the blast could not be ascertained as of now, but suspect that either explosive used for quarrying may have been stored in that house or the gas cylinder may have been exploded. The injured were staying beside the shed which blew apart. There are about 20 families of quarry workers hailing from Tamil Nadu, Shimoga and Uttara Kannada staying in the vicinity in the sheds, covered with asbestos and tin sheets. Mulky police is investigating the case.
