Karkala explosive cache: Police nab main accused

Udupi, 29 Apr 2014: A team of Udupi police nabbed the main accused involved in the cache of ammonium nitrate and detonators in Karkala.
The accused Biju Thomas, hailing from Kerala was arrested in Delhi. The accused owned the explosives which were seized in and around Karkala.
“The police team has obtained his transit remand and are in the process of bringing him to Udupi” stated SP MB Boralingaiah.
On March 25 the Udupi Police had seized 62 tonnes of ammonium nitrate, 50,350 detonators and 19,250 metres of safety fuse wires from three houses in Karkala and two nearby villages.
On March 27 40,000 detonators were seized from a abandoned van. Explosives were found buried in a pit belonging to a land owned by a person identified as Biju Thomas who was at large.
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) were informed about the seizure of 95 tonnes ammonium nitrate and detonators. Two special police teams were also formed on the lookout for the accused.
