Shringeri shoot out: SDPI allege foul play
Mangalore, 21 Apr 2014: Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) members allege that Kabeer, a resident of Krishnapura who died at Thanikodu in Shringeri on April 19, was gunned down by the anti-naxal force (ANF) from a point blank distance.
SDPI state vice president Haneef Khan Kodaje told reporters that there is a foul play on part of ANF cops with regard to their ’naxal suspicion’ claims. "Kabeer has been gunned down from a very short distance without any provocation of or altercation. The ANF’s claims of naxal suspicion is far from the truth. Only a CBI probe can bring facts to light," Haneef said expressing his suspicion of saffron organisation’s involvement in the incident.
An inquiry should be conducted into the involvement of saffron organisations in the incident, he said and urged that action should be taken against those who attacked the relatives Kabeer when they reached Shringeri to bring his body.
Haneef also has urged the government should increase the compensation amount announced to the kin of Kabeer from Rs 5 lakh to Rs 50 lakh.
