M’lore: Diocesan authorities urge EC to allow Christians to Celebrate Maundy Thursday

Mangalore, Mar 8, 2014 : A delegation of Mangalore Catholic diocesan PRO Fr William Menezes, diocesan Laity Commission secretary Fr J B Crasta and diocesan political awareness Committee convener M P Noronha met Dakshina Kannada district Deputy Commissioner (DC) A B Ibrahim here on Friday March 7, to urge the Chief Election Commissioner (EC) to allow all Christian faithful to celebrate Maundy Thursday on April 17, as the same date set by Election Commission of India to hold Lok Sabha elections in Karnataka.

 

 

 
The delegation submitted a memorandum on behalf of Bishop of Mangalore to DC A B Ibrahim, in order to forward the same to Chief Election Commissioner because election date follows Good Friday and Easter as Christians flock to churches in large numbers to worship during the Holy Week.
