Kundapur, Feb 22, 2014 : At the backdrop of People’s Movement against Unlawful Activity Prevention Act (UAPA), being implemented in 1967 and amended 3 times in 2012 is more draconian and anti-people than any other black laws like TADA and POTA, and the law is exploited by law enforcing agencies across the country; Peoples Movement against UAPA organized candle-light programme at Haikady masjid nearby, here on Friday February 21.
Illegal detention and torture of the citizens is evident under the law. The law has led to the oppression of justice, liberty and honor of the citizens. To demand repealing of the black law a form called Peoples Movement against UAPA has been formed in national level.
The Forum has conducted a meeting at national capital recently and veteran thinkers, icons and human right activists participated in it. The Forum will conduct various programs across the country as part of the national level campaign.
In Karnataka, a Committee has been formed under the presidency of High Court advocate S Balan. We have already announced the programmes which will be held in the state at a press conference held in Bangalore recently. Poster campaigns, hand bill distribution, booklet distribution, post card movement. Night vigil programs, seminar and public meets will be held as part of the movement.
It has been conducting meetings with many politicians to aware them about the dangerousness of the black law and requesting them to urge the repeal of the law. It will hold mega public meet of human right activists, secular parties and progressive people at Thal Kathora Stadium, New Delhi on March 5 2014 against UAPA.
As part of this night vigil programs were held on Friday February 21 from 7.30pm to 8.00pm at every village and ward.
