M’lore: Police beef up security for Modi’s visit

Mangalore, 16 Feb 2014: Mangalore police are gearing up for Bharatiya Janata Party’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi’s visit to the coastal city on Tuesday.

 

In view of the Z-plus security of Modi, police have barred parking in the half-km radius of Nehru Maidan almost 24 hours prior to the Gujarat CM’s visit till the end of the function.

 

City police chief R Hithendra said, "Political personalities will get due protection as per the state government’s directions. We have put in place heavy traffic restrictions on the day of Modi’s rally. Parking has been prohibited on all roads where Modi’s cavalcade will pass, including the National Highway, from 9am on Tuesday till the end of the function."

 

City police have divided the city into five sectors and placed restriction on movement of vehicles, especially those arriving for the rally, police chief said. The details are as follows:

Sector I: Those vehicles arriving from Kundapur-Udupi-Surathkal should proceed from Kottara Chowki to Ballal Bagh Junction. After alighting passengers they should turn right towards Ullal Nursing Home and park near the nursing home grounds. If there is no space there, they will have to go back to Kottara Chowki, take the Kulur Circle Road and park at the place available behind Renault Showroom near Kulur Bengre. These vehicles are not allowed to enter Car Street.

 

Sector II: Vehicles coming from Moodbidri-Karkala should take the Nanthoor Circle to St Agnes, Bendorewell route and then come to the Collector’s Gate. After alighting passengers, park vehicles at Padavu Grounds. These vehicles while going out should go to Yeyyadi and KPT towards the National Highway. The vehicles are strictly not allowed to come to Ambedkar Circle to alight passengers.

 

Sector III: Vehicles arriving from Belthangady-Bantwal should drop passengers at Koti Chennayya Circle while coming via Pumpwell, Kankanady Bypass and Valencia route. They are allowed to park near Nandigudde Maidan. If the parking place is full, they will have to park at Yekkur while going via Jeppu Market and Mahakalipadpu. They are not allowed to go to Attavar or Pandeshwar.

 

Sector IV: Vehicles coming from Puttur, Sullia and Madikeri should follow the Sector III route, but will have to drop passengers at Yemmekere Maidan instead of Koti Chennayya Circle. If the parking place is full, they have to go to Yekkur. The vehicles are not allowed to come to Pandeshwar.

 

Sector V: Vehicles coming from Kasaragod, Manjeshwar and Ullal should proceed via Pumpwell, Kankanady Bypass and Valencia route and drop passengers at Mangaladevi Junction. They should park at Morgans Gate Maidan. If the parking place is full, they have to go to Yekkur. The vehicles are not allowed to come to Pandeshwar.

 

KSRTC buses coming to Bejai bus stand from Pumpwell should take the Nanthoor, Kuntikana, Baliga Stores route and have to go out by the same route.

 

These rules are applicable for all vehicles.

 

Those vehicles with passes will be allowed to come towards Nehru Maidan.

 

These rules will not be applicable to VVIP vehicles, police and ambulances.

 

All vehicles private vehicles, buses will be banned entry from Ambedkar Circle, Lalbagh, Koti Chennayya Circle into the city from Tuesday 12 noon.

 

Government officials have been told to make alternate arrangements so that they can be dropped at their offices since no parking is allowed. University College, Taluk office, Deputy Commissioner’s office, RTO, District Health Office PWD offices all come in a 100 mts radius of Nehru Maidan.

 

Parking along the route Gujarat CM Narendra Modi’s route from Bajpe airport to Nehru Maidan has been banned from Tuesday 12 noon.

 

Seven DCP/SP ranked officers, 25 ACP/DySP, 67 inspectors, 157 sub inspectors, 211 assistant SI’s, 1450 head and police constables, 221 women constables, 135 traffic police and 300 home guards will be on duty.
