Udupi, Feb 3, 2014 : The patriots and freedom fighters had laid down their lives to get us freedom from imperial rulers.  The autobiographies of martyrs – Bhagat Singh, Chandrashekar Azad, Sukhdev, Subaschandra Bose and hundreds of freedom fighters indeed rekindle the patriotism among the students.  However, it’s tragic that the people who are involved in disfiguring Indian culture and vandalizing the worship centers are being projected as heroes in school textbooks, said Akshata Gokhale, secretary of Akshara Balaga, Karkal.

Akshata was delivering religious discourse on mass religious worship of Ashwatta and Satyanarayan penance that was organized by public celebration of Ganeshotsav Committee, Shirva, near here on Saturday February 1.

‘Mother was regarded as living God in Indian culture and every heroic individual had the influence of his mother’s human virtues.  The women are expected to instill patriotism and cultural upbringing.  If women go wrong in this, the culture will not survive,’ cautioned Akshata.

Nadimane Devaraj Rao, managing trustee of Durga temple, Kunjoor in his presidential address said that the religious beliefs enabled Indian culture to sustain and inspired the people of different communities to live in harmony.

The veteran progressive farmer Kallottu Raghavendra Nayak Shirva, state-level senior athlete Geeta Kumari, Kabaddi player Fendria Mathias who was qualified to represent India in international Kabaddi championship were felicitated on the same occasion.

The financial assistance was handed over for the medical treatment of deserving patients under Belle Kamalaksha Shenoy memorial fund.

Vedamurti Kutyar Kenja Sridar Tantri, Ganeshotsav Committee vice president Tammanna Poojary was present at the dais.

Ganeshotsav Committee president K Sundar Prabhu welcomed the gathering.  The secretary Kollabettu Ravindra Shetty read the annual report.  Neha Aras rendered the prayers.  Venkatesh Kamat proposed vote of thanks.  Devendra Nayak, Sadashiv and Jayaprakash Suvarna assisted in the programme.  Ananta Moodittaya compered the programme.
