Mumbai: Kannada Sangh, Santacruz organizes Kumkum Programme to Keep Tradition Alive

Mumbai, Jan 21, 2014 : Kannada Sangh, Santacruz ® organized Kumkum programme at Bhakta Samaja auditorium of Kalina, Mathurdas Colony, Vakola, Santacruz (East) here on Friday January 17.


Bantara Sangh Mumbai ® women wing honorary treasurer Asha V Rai, Kulala Sangha Mumbai ® women wing president Sumati Banjan and Billawar Association Mumbai ® women wing past president Jayanti V Ullal was the chief guest present on the occasion.

 

 

L V Amin and Sudha Amin couple inaugurated the Kumkum programme, and hoped it would facilitate for the wellbeing of women.


Speaking on the occasion, Asha V Rai said that traditional practices form basis for cultural upbringing of children.  A woman who is a housewife and multi-tasking has to play the role of culturally upbringing their children.  The traditional Kumkum programe indeed enlightens the people on the hollow western culture.  The Kumkum programme has to be organized in every household family by girls and women, appealed Asha.


Sumati Banjan said that the traditional practices have intrinsic value in life.  The tradition of sharing sesame seeds – joggery on Makara Sankrati has great benefits to enhance glowing of skin and it’s much loved by females and of course joggery made out of sugarcane also has medicinal values.  The people in ancient times were donating sesame seeds.  The Kumkum celebration indeed unites women from different communities for common good, said Sumati.


 
Kannada Sangh Santacruz ® honorary treasurer Chandrahas G J Kotian, joint secretary G R Bangera, joint treasurer R P Hegde, education Committee secretary Sudhakar Ucchil, members B D Suvarna, Shivaram Kotian, Bannanje Ravindra Amin, Sasi Nityanand Kotian, Shobha Shivaram Kotian, Suma M Poojary, Raghunat B Poojary, Harinakshi Shetty, Mallika Sapaliga, sub-Committee members and hundreds of women were present on the occasion.


Laxmi Kotian compered the cultural show as part of entertainment programme. 


The women members presented prayer song.  The social and cultural Committee president Prema R Kotian welcomed the gathering.  Kannada Sangh honorary chief secretary Sujata R Shetty compered the programme and briefed on the significance of Kumkum programme.  The secretary Sharada S Poojary proposed vote of thanks.
