Karkal: Youth disinterested in sustaining folk-art; Babu Salian

Karkal, Jan 14, 2014 : The influence of western culture has disregarded the ancient cultural practices, chiefly because of youth community who are increasingly following western culture without realizing the significance of native culture. It’s tragic that the youth who lack knowledge on contemporary practices and are disinterested in sustaining it, said senior traditional worshipper Bola Babu Salian.
Babu was speaking after inaugurating Karkal taluk level youth convention – folk art culture that was organized in association with Udupi ZP, youth empowerment and sports department, youth Federation - Karkal, and Mitravranda ® Barabail at Ramakrishna Aided Higher Primary School, Piloiyoor – Bola, near here on Sunday January 12.
Speaking on the occasion, the youth service and sports department assistant director Dr Roshan Kumar Shetty said that the men and women clubs in the locality are going oblivious as the youth community is glued to computers, mobiles and internet. It’s a irony that friendship in social networking websites are increasing thereby the unity of local youth are sidelined, Dr Shetty expressed deep concern on the state of youth in society.
ZP member Supreet Shetty Kedinje presided the programme.
The taluk youth Federation president Rajesh Salian was present.
The youth service and sports officer Narayan Rao welcomed the gathering. Mitravranda ® member Satish Shetty proposed vote of thanks. The teacher Nagesh Bajagoli compered the programme.
