MLA Hegde Meets CM, HM on Vandalizing Statue of Jesus

Mumbai, 18 Dec 2013: Vile Parle MLA Krishna Hegde met the  Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan and home minister R R Patil in Nagpur on Tuesday December 17, on the damage done to the Cross and Statue of Lord Jesus Christ at Vile Parle (West), here on Monday December 16 early morning.

Hegde informed the CM Chavan that some elements were possibly trying to create communal tension and a law and order problem in the area. The Christian community had gathered in large number at the site of the Cross and offered prayers on Monday.

MLA Hegde was also present. Hegde also thanked the Christian community for the manner in which they handled and controlled the situation.

Though an FIR has been filed at the Santacruz police station, no arrest has been made. The home minister R R Patil spoke to Additional Commissioner of Police Vishwas Nagre Patil to trace and arrest the culprits.

CM Chavan also assured Hegde that he would speak to the Mumbai Police Commissioner to take prompt action.
