Udupi: National Seminar on E-Governance in Karnataka Inaugurated at St Mary’s College

Udupi, 24 Aug 2013: At the joint aegis of St Mary’s College political science department, Shirva, near here and Mangalore University Political Science Teachers Association (MUPSTA), two-day national seminar on E-Governance in Karnataka was inaugurated at St Mary’s College auditorium, Shirva, here on Friday August 23.

 

 

Udupi zilla panchayat president Upendra Nayak after inaugurating the national seminar, said that Udupi district is at the forefront in e-governance in the entire state, because out of a total of 161 gram panchayats in its jurisdiction, 150 gram panchayats already provided internet connection and Udupi Deputy Commissioner’s office has become fully paperless office, said Upendra. 

 

Dr Sandeep Shastry, vice-chancellor of Jain University, Bangalore in his keynote address, spoke on the achievements and lapses in e-governance in Karnataka.  He offered information on Karnataka e-governance – websites: Bhoomi, Sakala, Cauvery, Bangalore One, KSRTC, treasury, basic information, Nemmadi, HRMS, Sachivalayahini, etc and also urged the authorities to rectify a few errors and the facility needs to be available to the common folks, because there already exists a divide between those with digital knowledge and those with without knowledge among the people in the society.  Everyone should be empowered with e-knowledge, said Dr Sandeep.

 

Shirva – St Mary’s education institutions correspondent Fr Stany Tauro, in his presidential address said that the people should earnestly use the benefits of e-governance that is more transparent indeed.  It’s also essential to learn the computer and internet even for everyone, said Fr Tauro.
St Mary’s College principal, Professor V N Rajan welcomed the dignitaries during sixth national conference that was organized by the college in this academic year so far.

 

MUPSTA secretary Professor Krishnanand Shenoy was also present.

 

Malati and Hemalata rendered the prayers.  St Mary’s College head of department of political science and MUPSTA president Dr Padmanabha Bhat proposed vote of thanks.  Professor Subramanya B compered the programme.
