Karkal,23 Aug 2013: Mother is a living god whose debt cannot be returned for any number of births. Her happiness was believed to be his happiness throughout his life that has been proved by Fr Lawrence B D’Souza, parish priest of St Joseph’s parish, Belman, near here who celebrated the birthday of his mother ninety-year-old Josephine D’Souza in an unique way, setting an example to others!
Fr Lawrence followed the routine of visiting his mother at the ancestral house in Balkunje, near here once in a week, in spite of his pastoral duties. He has offered the Holy Mass along with his mother, brothers, sisters and family members, at St Joseph’s church, Belman and shared the joy by cutting the cake.
It’s significant that pure vegetarian food prepared in Brahmin style was shared by the gathering along with his mother. The students of St Joseph’s School also included in the celebration, who savored the vegetarian food and sweet dishes on the occasion.
Mundkoor parish priest Fr Jerome D’Souza, Fr Alban Rodrigues, retired clergy Fr Denis D’Souza Mudarangady, education department officers Subramanya Bhat and Panduranga Shetty, religious nuns, teaching staff of St Joseph’s Schools, Belman parish council vice president Gregory Menezes and council members were present on the occasion.
The clergy has set an example to have great regard for Indian culture wherein mother is revered, for those educated and intellectuals who earn huge salaries abroad, dump their elderly parents in old age homes and visit them once a year with lip service.
