Visual Media lured Yakshagana Audience; Vasudev Hebbar

Karkal, 31 July 2013: It’s due to the influence of visual media, the Yakshagana, heroic art of coastal district that has significant Indian cultural value woven in different mythological episodes; faces the dearth of viewers. Meanwhile, the situation can be improved by staging quality shows in rural areas, said the renowned astrologer Vasudev Hebbar.
Hebbar was speaking after offering motion for Yakshagana Taalamaddale that was held at Vanjarakatte School, near Belman, here on Tuesday July 30. Hebbar further said that Yakshagana Taalamaddale that was staged in Vanjarakatte School and elsewhere will create interest among the new generation on the spiritual values of Yakshagana, said Hebbar.
The renowned Yakshagana artiste and Bhagavaat – Taranat Varkady was felicitated on the same occasion.
The zilla panchayat member Supreet Shetty, retired headmaster Sundar Rao, Yakshaloka Yaksha Shikshana Vidhyapeeta director Janardhan Shastry Nandalike, Chennappa Shetty Siddakatte, honorary president Jagdish Achar, Yakshagana play convener Prakash Acharya, Vijay Kumar, Satish Prabhu and others were present.
