Shirva: World Environment Day Celebrated at Canara Bank

Udupi, 6 Jun 2013: World Environment Day was celebrated at Canara Bank, Shirva branch, near here in association with Hindu higher Primary School, Shirva and the Bank customers, here on Wednesday June 5. Canara Bank, one among the public-sector-bank has been celebrating World Environment Day and Vanamahotsav simultaneously at its 4,000 branches across the nation.
Shirva – Rotary Club president Mathias Lobo presided the programme and explained the importance of World Environment Day by disturbing the plants at the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Edwin Rodrigues, the retired headmaster of Padukalattoor Ayyanna Higher Primary School said that the natural resources are being exploited by human beings for his own peril. The mega industries and chemical fertilizers are polluting the environment with devastating effects on water bodies, farmlands and health of people, said Rodrigues.
Belman – St Joseph’s School headmaster B Pundalika Marate, Shirva – Hindu Higher Primary School head teacher Lilly Nazareth distributed the prizes to talented students.
The bank customer Michael Mathias, the Bank officer Shalini Pai, branch staff Sudha Kamat, Nayanakshi, Sumitra and others were present at the occasion.
Rohan rendered the prayers. K R Pai proposed vote of thanks.
Shriva branch senior manager P Linga Kumar welcomed the gathering.
