Udupi: More Numbers of New-Voters included in Latest List; DC Dr Reju

Udupi, 28 Apr 2013: Nearly 19,544 names of new voters has been included in the voters’ list in the past 4 months, while a total of 8,73,612 voters are likely to cast their votes in the upcoming assembly elections, said district Election Officer and Deputy Commissioner Dr M T Reju and Additional Deputy Commissioner Kumar.
Addressing the media persons during a press meet held here on Saturday April 27, they said that 5,174 new voters are included in Udupi legislative constituency, 30,203 new voters are included in Kaup legislative constituency, 4,163 new voters are included in Kundapur legislative constituency, 2,874 new voters are included in Byndoor legislative constituency and 3,303 new voters are included in Karkal legislative constituency.
A total of 5,000 staff including officers is engaged on election duty in the district, out of which 4,500 will cast their votes by post. Three-hundred-fifty staff has already cast their votes, while separate counters are opened in the electioneering office at all legislative constituencies. All the staff engaged on election duty are advised compulsorily cast their votes at the respective counters, said Deputy Commissioner Dr Reju.
The votes count will be held at T A Pai English Medium High School, Kunjibettu this year, like in the past, while the preparations are under way. The process of vote count will begin on Wednesday May 8 from 8.00am. The voting will be held on Sunday May 5 from 7.00am to 5.00pm.
This time the permanent ink will be applied to voter’s ring finger at the polling center. The platoons of BSF, CISF, SSP, CRPF and other security forces will be deployed for peaceful voting. Video cameras are being installed in 110 polling centers in across the district.
