Udupi: Seafood is Nutritious; Professor Shivanandamurti

Udupi, 15 Mar 2013: Seafood is nutritious. It is rich in amino acids, fat and carbohydrates that is essential for body growth, said Professor Shivanandamurti of Fisheries College.
Professor Shivanandamurti was speaking after inaugurating the newly-developed fisheries pond by Dollora Oliver in Kutyar village, near here recently. One-day fish farming and information camp was held at the same occasion.
‘Chiefly, the farmers can get their requirement of seafood by engaging in fish farming through developing water-ponds in their fields. It can also supplement their income and maintain good health of family members,’ said Professor Shivanandamurti.
Dr Hanumantayya of Agriculural Research Centre, Brahmavar and progressive fisheries farmers John Veigas provided information on fisheries farming.
Dr Dhananjaya of Udupi district fisheries department, departmental officers and Kutyar gram panchayat members were present at the occasion.
Over 45 farmers including women attended the camp and benefited out of their experiences.
Dollora Oliver welcomed the gathering.
The dignitaries released the baby fishes into the newly-developed fisheries pond at the beginning of programme.
