Kundapur, 23 Feb 2013: The cobra fight that began in a palm grove located besides Kinara Road, Koteshwar near here on Thursday February 21 early morning terrified the local residents.  Two cobras of over 6 foot were fighting in a palm grove ownedby a certain Ganesh Udupa at wee hours of Thursday.  Ganesh Udupa was awakened owing to barking dogs and walked in darkness to find cobras were fighting in vengeance.

The terrified Udupa called Sridar Ithal, an expert in reptile rescue who lives in Koteshwar near here.  Sridar arrived and separated the warring cobras.  A cobra was injured a little while the stronger cobra was trying to swallow the weaker by its head.  The weaker cobra was trying for its survival and in vengeance. Despite, Sridar separated the cobras, each began a fresh fight and Sridar had to try for cease fire. The warring cobras with all the might even terrified Sridar, but he managed to separate them and freed them in two directions about 200 meters away from each other.

A short while, the cobras once again began the fight and Sridar realized that the fight would threaten the lives of both cobras.  Sridar Poojary with the help of Sasidar and others managed to separate the two warring cobras and put them in vessels took it to state-owned forest and freed about 4 – 5 kilometers away from each other at about 12.00pm on Thursday.

‘It is not a mating season for reptiles.  There is male and female gender in reptiles, while the fight was not love making.  It’s the fight for vengeance. If that is left to continue, either of a cobra will die or both will succumb to injuries and die of infections.  The fight might have begun at about 3.00am on Thursday.

Sridar Ithal is an expert in rescuing reptiles since the past many decades.  At last the neighbours heaved a sigh of relief in rescuing both warring cobras by Sridar Aithal.
