Udupi: Opposition Party Holds Protest against Saligrama Town Panchayat

Udupi, 05 Dec 2012: The general public and opposition party Congress members of Saligrama town panchayat staged protest here on Tuesday, for allegedly selling scrap worth over a few lac of rupees for just Rs 1,000.
It was decided to demolish 4 shops owned by town panchayat besides national highway, in order to facilitate four-lane conversion of NH 66. The rolling shutters, asphalt sheets and building materials altogether worth over a few lac of rupees were supposed to be disposed-off by holding an auction. Meanwhile, the town panchayat officers and ruling party BJP disposed-off the building materials to some scrap dealers for a meager of Rs 1,000. The opposition party leader Srinivas Amin organized the protest along with general public in this regard.
The protesters forced the scrap dealer not to move any materials from the premises.
