Mysore: Prayers for rain; special mass at St Philomena’s

Mysore, 27 Jul 2012: With rains playing truant leading to drought prayers to appease rain god was organised in the city on Friday.
At St Philomena’s Church on Ashoka road, one of the oldest cathedrals of the city, special prayers had been organised at different intervals.
The prayers split into six sessions- thrice in the morning and evening was attended by the people of Christian community in large numbers.
The first prayer was held from 6 am onwards. Devotional songs were rendered in different languages including Kannada.
The prayers were conducted under the leadership of Father John Peter Rego, parish priest Father Williams and assistant priest Vijayraj.
On the other hand, City (District) Janata Dal (Secular) unit took out a motorcycle rally to Talacauvery to pray for rain.
The party workers led by the president of city unit Koppal Rajanna performed abhisheka to the idol of Nandi, before launching the rally from Kote Anjaneya Swamy temple at the south gate of Mysore palace. The party workers will offer puja to at the origin of Cauvery river.
MLCs Sandesh Nagaraj and Chikkamadu, former MLA S Balaraj, former mayor Sandesh Swamy, former deputy mayor M J Ravikumar and others were present.

A very good lead and example to all kannadigas. Let this continue in all churches so that the prayers will purify and also console God who must be hurt looking at the behaviour of the Leaders in Government. God forgive us all and give sufficient rains. |
