Women’s role hailed in Udupi Congress meet

Udupi, 16 July 2012: Observing the present political situation in the state, we can feel that the Vidhana Sabha election could take place soon, so the District Women Congress will have to get ready for the election campaign, said Udupi – Chickmagalur MP K. Jayaprakash Hegde. He was speaking as a chief guest during the installation ceremony of the new office bearers for Udupi District Women’s Congress, on Saturday.
‘During the last Lokasabha election the Women Congress has played an important role in my victory’, said Jayaprakash Hegde, who was also felicitated in the function. The installation ceremony of new office bearers was conducted by State Women Congress Secretary Shyamala Bhandary, who in her speech said that, the women has to take the lead role in the cleaning up of the politics and lift up the democratic values. Women do not need political field for the sake of power, but at least for the sake of saving the democracy the women have to actively participate in the political field, she said.
The program was presided over by District Women Congress President Veronica Carnelio, who welcomed the guests and the gathering. In the program Karkala MLA H. Gopala Bhandary, Former Minister Vasantha Salyan, Block Congress President Pramod Madhwaraj, District Congress Chief Secretary Narasimha Murthy, Lokasabha Constituency Yuva Congress Chief Secretary Amrath Shenoy, Women Congress leaders Jayashree Krishnaraj, Sarala Kanchan and others were present. Chief Secretary Dr. Sunita Shetty compeered the program.
