Kundapur: Hearty welcome to new Assistant Parish Priest – Fr. Pravin Amrit Martis

Kundapur, 03 Jun 2012: The parishioners of the church of Our Lady of Rosary, Kundapur extended a hearty welcome to the new Assistant Parish Priest, Fr. Pravin Amrit Martis on Sunday, May 27, 2012 at 4 pm. He was welcomed at the main entrance of the church by the Parish priest, Rev. Fr. Alban D’Souza by offering him a bouquet of flowers.
In a brief welcome function organized soon after, the Vice President of the Parish Pastoral Council, Mr. Michel Braganza welcomed the new Assistant Parish Priest and the congregation. Recalling the origin of the church, Rev. Fr. Alban D’Souza said that the church was founded in Kundapur in 1570. Following the destruction of the original church by the soldiers of Tipu Sultan, the present church was erected. The parish has a number of educational institutions.
Replying to the welcome from the Kundapur parishioners, Fr. Pravin Martis said that he belonged to Mani (Borimarg) parish. After ordination he spent seven years as a missionary at Bidar in northern Karnataka. He assured the parishioners that he would serve the people with all honesty. He also thanked all those family members and relatives who had accompanied him to Kundapur for the send off. At this occasion he recalled the sacrifices of his late parents and thanked them.
Fr. Elias D’Souza, Principal of St. Mary’s PU College was on the dais along with other dignitaries. Mrs. Soni D’Costa, Secretary of the Parish Pastoral Council compeered the programme and proposed the vote of thanks.
