Udupi, 04 March 2012: Mercury is the nearest planet to sun, it is very difficult to see it and study it with naked eyes. But this week, that is first week of March Mercury can be seen in the evening from 7.00 pm to 7.25 pm along with Jupiter and Venus very closely in the western sky. If you ask what is special about it, Mercury is not always visible to see like that, other than this week it may be possible to see again during last week of October.
But Venus is visible 4 – 5 months in the western sky and 4 – 5 months in eastern sky in a year. Mars is visible the whole night now. Jupiter and Saturn can be seen for 8 months in a year at different times, all with naked eyes. So among the 5 planets, Mercury is rare to see.
One of these days try to see the Mercury says Poornaprajna Amateur Astronomers Club’s Dr. A.P. Bhat (9448309077).
