Udupi, 30 January 2012: If Y.M. Ghorpade who was elected in Bellary and became minister in the state government is compared to the politicians of today; it will be an insult to him. He was an great politician, opinioned author Dr. Mallika Ghanti. She was speaking on the topic Community and Y.S. Ghorpade in a program jointly organized by Udupi Rathabeedi Friends, Udupi – Manipal Bharatiya Vidyabhavana and Abhinava Prakashana of Bangalore, in MGM College, Udupi.
Ghorpade has remained alone due to his policies. Though he is born with a silver spoon in a royal family, having his education in the foreign country, the concern he had for the poor and the farmers cannot be expected from the politicians of today. From Bellary where he was born, today different kinds of politicians are coming out, which is not favorable, she said.
If today’s politicians make corores of rupees valued properties, Ghorpade lost his properties after he came to politics. When the land act was implemented he donated thousands of acre land who were cultivating it. The politicians of today are wearing expensive cloths, but Ghorpade though he was rich, he was wearing Khadi cloths, she said.
During the administration of Chief Minister Devaraj Aras, Ghorpade contributed in the commercial and social development in the state. Such a great politician unhappy with the today’s modern politicians got himself retired in the year 2004, she said.
The program was presided over by Rathabeedi Friends Association President Muraleedhara Upadya Hiriyadka. Abhinava Kumar welcomed the guests and the gathering. Prabhakara Tumari compeered the program.
Subrhamanya Joshi proposed vote of thanks.
