Katpadi: More than 70 School Children stranded on road

Katpadi, 11 December 2011: A government bus on a school excursion met with an accident with a private bus on Thursday near Katpadi, so the primary school students and the teachers from a school near Bhatkal had to be stranded in the evening for some time on the National Highway. Near the Katpadi Petrol Bunk on the National Highway 66, the government bus hit a private express bus from behind.
As a result of this accident four students were injured and more than 70 students who were in the bus on an excursion had to be stranded on the highway for an hour in the evening. These 73 students had gone to Pilikula of Mangalore on an excursion on Thursday morning, evening while returning back to Bhatkal at around 6.30 pm this accident took place near Katpadi.
The accident took place due to brake fail and the bus went out of control, hit the rear side of a private bus which was travelling and stopped. As the children were having fun inside the bus, so four children among them were injured. Immediately the locals rushed them to the Private Hospital in Udupi and arranged treatment to them.
Since the accident took place on the national highway, the traffic was obstructed for some time. Kaup Police arrived to the spot and eased the traffic. The local people coordinated in taking the injured students to the hospital for treatment and arranging the remaining students and teachers to send them to Bhatkal.
