Barkur: Residents and Associations Conduct Rail Roko

Barkur, 25 November 2011: Demanding a stop at Barkur for the newly started Yashavanthpura – Karvara train, the residents of Barkur and the surrounding areas and also more than 23 associations successfully conducted rail rook movement on Thursday. The residents of Barkur, Brahmavara, Sastan, Rickshaw drivers, Association activists all about hundreds of people stopped the train going from Karwar to Yashvanthpura and then they submitted the petition to the Railway Manager Vinay Kumar.
Speaking on the occasion K.K. Nayak of Nagarika Vedike said that, already several petitions have been submitted to the railway department to arrange a stop for the Yashvanthpura train at Barkur, which has been extended up to Karwar, but there was no any action, so this protest has been conducted. At lease now the railway department should honour our petition and arrange for a stop at Barkur and provide a convenience to the thousands of people here to make use of the train, he said.
Former Jilla Panchayath President Bujanga Shetty, Taluk Panchayath Member Gowri Poojary, Barkur Grama Panchayath President Vasanthi, Association leaders; Shrinivasa Shettigar, Venkataramana Bandarkar, Seetharam Shetty, Jayananda Poojary, Satyanarayana Udupa, Norin Lobo, Peter Furtado, Herald D’Souza, Ramananda Shetty and others were present on the occasion. As a precautionary measure to avoid any hostile situation Police security had been arranged.
