Belman: Yakshagana is the reflection of substance & culture

Belman, 19 November 2011: Yakshagana is an ancient tradition and it is a good traditional form of art. There is need to preserve this art by introducing it to the youngsters, said Karkala Taluk Billava Samaja Seva Sangha President D.R. Raju. He was speaking upon inaugurating the “Yakshagana Fancy Dress Competitions” organized for children on Monday at Sambrama Auditorium.
The competitions were jointly organized by “Hosasanje” team and Anjali Digitals. Speaking further Raju said that, in the las five decades the Yakshagana was the only cultural entertainment in the costal districts. But now with the modern entertainments and facilities this culture is lagging behind. In order to retain the Yakshagana culture the children to be encouraged and trained in this field, he said.
Entrepreneur Jayavanth Kamath, T. Ramachandra Nayak, Lawyer K. Vejendra Kumar, Karkala Taluk Journalist Sangha President K. padmakar Bhat were the Chief Guests of the program, who conveyed their best wishes. Balaga President R. Devaraya welcomed the guests and the gathering. Dattatreya Hiriyangadi compeered the program. Haris Hosmaru proposed vote of thanks.
