Udupi: Woman claims her son was forcefully married

Udupi, 26 October 2011: A woman has complained to the Udupi District court that her 18 years old son was forcefully kidnapped and was married against their religion. The mother who complained is Safia Akbar a resident of Mulur Grama. Her son Mohammed Ashil (18) is the 1st year B. Com student of M.P.M. College Manipal. She has complained that, a woman by name Dilshad of Nejar has kidnapped him and got him married to her daughter Tanzila against the law.

“On 12th October, Ashil phoned home and said that he is in Bangalore, I thought that he must have gone to Bangalore to participate in the college sports competition. But on 14th October at 2.00 pm he came to our home along with the woman Dilshad of Nejar and her daughter Tanzila. At that time she said that Ashil has married to her daughter Tanzil. Frightened with this I questioned them, but without giving proper answer they took my son Ahil and gone” said Safia.
 
“As per the Muslim marriage system father of groom and father of bride has to sign in marriage (Nikha) document. But here father of boy Ashil and father of girl Tanzila both are employed abroad. Without them signing the marriage cannot take place. So this marriage is not legal” said lawyer Ananda Madiwala the lawyer representing Safia in the court.
 
Now, as per the request of the mother, the court has issued search warrant to search son Ashin from the house of the accused and report him to the court.
