Manipal, 22 October 2011: A jewelry shop in the midst of Parkala town is looted on Thursday night. The thieves who sneaked into the jewelry shop “Shri Raj Jewelers” owned by Raviraja Acharya have been robbed with gold jewelries worth 9.50 lakh rupees. This shop is very near to the Manipal – Parkala state highway and the street lights on either side of the road were lit, but still the shop has been easily robbed.
It is assumed that the thieves have come in a vehicle and conducted this robbery. The thieves have broken the shutter bottom lock with stones and have sneaked in. Though there was safe locker inside the shop, it was not locked. Thieves have robbed about 356 gram gold and 3.25 kg silver jewelries.
As so many shop robberies taking place in the district and though the police have given clear instructions to install camera – sirens in the shops, there was no such system in place in this shop, said Manipal Police Sub Inspector Kulkarni. Dy SP Dr. Y.S. Ravikumar, Dy SP Jayanth Shetty and Manipal Police Sub Inspector Kulkarni have visited the spot and conducted inspection.
