Udupi, 13 October 2011: Karnataka State Raitha Sangha and the Hasiru Sene Udupi unit has strongly criticised the decision of Chief Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda on giving the clearance to UPCL for the commissioning of the 2nd unit. D.V. Sadananda Gowda had visited Udupi Power Corporation Limited (UPCL) project site just 2 months before he could become the CM and upon listening to the problems of the people there, he had declared that he will get the company closed.
But so quickly CM’s colour has changed. Udupi In charge Minister Dr. Acharya was supporting UPCL from the beginning. D.V. Sadananda Gowda, upon taking oath took blessings from Dr. Acharya and by giving the clearance to UPCL he gave Guru Kanike to Acharya, said Raitha Sangha Jilla President Vijayakumar Hegde on Wednesday in the press conference.
Many of the power plants in the state are not in proper operation and have shut down the power production. Now there is no coal supply from outside. It is not true that there are no power suppliers. In fact there is no money with the government for the purchase of coal and power from other states. Therefore, they say that there is shortage of power and have come forward to give clearance to UPCL company which has established illegally.
Already from the 1st unit the people of the district have faced lot of difficulties and losses. Now with the 2nd unit this misery will be doubled. Therefore, the Chief Minister must not give clearance for the 2nd unit at any cost. But if he gives, then the Raitha Sangha will take up strong protest, he warned.
In the press conference Raith Sangha leaders; Sanjeeva Poojary, Purandara Shetty, Thimmappa Bhandary, Shashidhara Shetty and others were present.
