Udupi: Average 72% voted in bi-election at total 26 GP

Udupi, 26 September 2011: The bi-election was peaceful in the 26 Grama Panchayths where the seats were vacant for various reasons. The villagers participated with enthusiasm and average 71.97 voting was done. The election was conducted in Kota, Pandeshwara, Ayrodi, Barkuru, Heggunje, Nalkuru, Kunjalu, Haradi, Kalianpura, Belle, Shirva, Innanje, Katapadi, Uliyaragoli, Kaup and Bada Grama Panchayths of Udupi Taluk.
The election was also conducted in Paduvari, Nada, Hallihole, Hattiyangadi, Shakaranarayana, Basruru Grama Panchayaths of KunapuraTaluk and Shirlalu, Neere, Nitte Grama Panchayaths of Karkala Taluk. Tight police security was arranged around the polling centres. In the Grama Panchayaths where the election is conducted the sale of alcohol was banned from morning 8.00 am to mid night 12.00 pm. The vote counting will be conducted on 28th September.
