07 Oct 2014: Every living organism on this earth encounter problem. The fittest will survive dominating over others. Who is this fittest? What makes it fittest? The answer is the one who is innovative. In the case of human race, we dominated every other living creature because we could talk and communicate effectively controlling and manipulating the environment around us. We have innovative thoughts and creative ideas through which we can employ a right approach suiting the requirement of the problem, which other species lacks and hence could survive the testing times. Slowly as we marched from Stone Age to Space Age our attitude and approach toward challenges changed and that is the reason we could conquer all the barriers. This scientific achievement is done by few individuals with their way of approach and right attitude when they encountered a problem. And whenever the approach is/ was negative, the results also were negative.
At the same time we faulted in many areas, particularly in social set up bringing inn depression in every sphere of life. When success entered our head we started drifting away. The very words which brought success in scientific field, we failed to apply properly in our social life. We ourselves are to be blamed for this. So today in this topic we will focus on how to fix this problem and make our life happy and peaceful as well as successful with the right approach.
Have you ever noticed if you have traveled by air in the night the additional announcement the pilot makes just before taking off which he generally don’t do in the day time ? The Pilot says he is going to switch off all the cabin lights since he need bit of additional energy to take off successfully until he reaches the cruising altitude. Once he reaches there the plane needs less energy to travel to the destination. And then he switches on the cabin lights. Just like that in life, we too need a bit of additional energy to break an old approach (habit) and to install a new one. This additional energy is needed to keep up the initial determination and not to drift away from our goal. Once we install a new habit we are through (may be compared with cruising altitude). Many people fail because they lose the initial momentum they got and stop trying further. They want something good has to be started automatically in them and put no effort. They gave various reasons for failure, but the basic reason is the approach. They think they can’t succeed, for no reason!
Any new approach or habit may be developed in a few seconds of strong determination. When you feel easy with this thought the next step is to anchor this thought in you tightly so that you do not drift away by the strong current of negative thoughts. And remember during this entire journey until you establish a new approach or habit, your heart should shake hands with your mind. Don’t allow them to clash and never allow ego to come up alive. Your heart is your conscious where the soul resides in you to guide you on the right path.
Before saying NO, not possible etc kindly do act and confirm yourself because “Impossible is Often Untried “. Sure, an additional energy is needed to rectify and replace an old approach and behaviors, to install a new one. As the plane takes less energy once it reaches the cruising altitude, until its destination; in life also minus a few initial discomforts, will be peaceful and successful after that. We need a bit more determination until we are ok with new habit or approach, after that you are going to cruise easily with the new habit.
Let us explain about this right approach in cricketing language .All of us watch cricket. Consider a test match; we have seen captains blaming the pitch for poor result. They could score only 275 to 300 runs whole day playing 90 overs .If they play a one day match on the same pitch, same day, 100 over produces almost 600 runs and a T20 will produce 300 plus runs in just 40 over on the same pitch .What is the role of the pitch or conditions here? Clearly most of the times it is not the conditions but players approach to the format of the game. Definitely it is the change in approach that brings the different results.Tendullar struggled to complete his 100th century. But going by his statistics you can see he should have completed 125 centuries!! He lost 25% of centuries to “century syndrome” (Getting out between 90 &99). Not only has he done this, many other batsmen too). What a batsman do when he approaches century? He starts playing cautiously and suddenly become anxious about completing the century. The bowler, who was hit for boundaries sixers a few minutes earlier, also is considered dangerous now on!! From 90 run onward starts crawling. We might have lost many matches for this wrong approach.
What happens to them (batsman) all of sudden? They commit a big mistake in approach at that juncture. They just forget or give up the free, fearless, joyful approach which brought them 90 runs easily and enters into an artificial anxiety cell, the negative approach for the remaining 10 runs, by playing slowly and fearfully .that may either deny them the century or painstakingly they may complete it at the cost of counties pride.
When we are struck and bogged down by life we need to check our approach to the event or problem. We remain still and expect things around us to change. Why anything has to change for you when there is no effort? Why there should be a new result when there is no new approach? Why the reaction has to change when action remains the same?
Process the process; you will come to know what you do. Think about how you do, what you do actually. The problem with us is we don’t think.
Very similarly our student / children do behave. Once they enter October month slowly their smiling face starts fading. They allow exam fear and anxiety to build up, they “feel “like forgetting the topics they know very well and at the end , that is what going to happen. It is because they employ this wrong approach for almost 6 months (October to March) and condition the mind negatively and end up in getting negative result.
What we do when we are going for an ordinary and a special function? In the first case we try to be casual ,we are done by 10 minutes where as in the 2nd case we spend at least one hour in front of mirror. Because of the difference in the nature of the function we adopt two different approaches to get ready. When you are in 10th and 12th you are under the scanner of everyone. So the old relaxing approach of 8th 9th and 11th may not be useful since these 2 stages are very crucial. So you need to change your approach a bit. Like wise in other areas of life too we need to change the way we approach a problem to get a different result. We need to come out from monotonous approach to life to make it more exciting and eventful.
Remember, we are going to get the same result today also; if we are going to think & act with same old yesterdays thought and approach. If we want a different result; think, act and approach differently. How anyone can get different result without doing differently? This applies to every walk in life not only in education. What we focus on is going to grow because that is what we are nourishing. Not only that, on the way it is going to attract similar things only. That is how people with negative mentality become pessimistic day by day and remains so. So focus on right and positive approach and have a positive result.
Kindly note that once you are addicted to thinking positively, you never will go back to negative approach again. It is because of the law of nature; like any other thing, the mind stretched once never go back to its earlier position, you will never think again, negatively and narrowly. This change in thought, approach and act, is going to give a new beginning to all of us.
Change today; start now.
