Bellevision UAE Team wins prestigious Karaval Milan Mega Konkani Quiz Contest in Dubai on Friday

Dubai, 18 May 2013: Bellivision UAE team members Godwin D’Souza and Anitha D’Souza won the most coveted Mega Konkani Quiz contest conducted by  Karaval Milan association of Dubai and USWAS Shirva bagged the runners up trophy.

 

The four teams had made it  to the finals of the mega konkani contest held on April 12, 2013; namely Udentichim Neketra represented by Ullas D’Souza and,Ashumpta Pereira, USWAS team by  Manoj Menezes and Lavina Tauro, Omzoorche Dive represented by Arthur Pereira and Reshma Pereira and Bellevision Team represented by Godwin D’Souza and Anitha D’Souza.

 

The mega quiz was conducted by a well-known quiz Master from Mangalore Professor Vincent Alva.  He is also a poet, singers, writer, emcee and a very good organizer.

 

He was introduced by a well-known emcee of U.A.E. Roshan Vamanjoor and welcomed the association committee members namely, President Naveen Sequeira, Rony Byndoor, Eric D’Souza, Wilson D’Sa and Charles Mascharenhas.  The mega quiz was inaugurated with lighting of the traditional lamp by the organizers on the dais.

 

 

Roshan then requested the Karval Milan members to accompany the four teams and lead them to the dais ceremoniously.  He then welcomed the quiz master of the day Prof. Vincent Alva and requested President Naveen Sequeira to invite him to the dais to conduct the Mega Konkani Quiz Contest.

 

Vincent Alva thanked the organizers for inviting him to conduct the mega contest.  He was very proud of the organizers for keeping the konkani alive.   It is only possible because of immense love the konkani community of U.A.E. and the association members to organize such a wonderful konkani quiz. He called them Commandos and very well disciplined and praised them for their dedication and love to our mother tongue Konkani. Addressing the audience he told that he feels very small looking at the konkani love and programs organized outside of Mangalore being away from home and giving importance to Konkani.  If today Mangalore has any name it is because of various associations of U.A.E. and many other konkani associations of gulf countries and their dedication service to konkani.

 

Addressing the contestants he said that the contest is very easy all can answer all question.  No argument between groups and no cross questions but only answers and all the questions were based on konkani literature, konkani culture, konkani traditional items.

 

The contest was interestingly held and the questions were fairly easy and quiz master cracked a few jokes and made the contest easy and spontaneous and comfortable.

 

The first rounds were held on konkani literature, konkani tradition, traditional items and relationships.  The final rounds were the bazar rounds i.e. audio and pictures of various traditional items and fruits of Mangalore region. At the end of first bazar round the USWAS and Bellevision team leading by  89 and 83 scores followed by Udentithim Neketram and Omzoorche Dive by  41 scores each.  However the final bazar round was songs i.e. audio round in which Bellevision scored over from UWAS Shirva and managed to beat them to win the most coveted award and Godwin and Anitha D’Souza of Bellevision team declared the winners of the mega contest.

 

The winners and runners of trophies were awarded to the winners by Mr. Joseph Mathias – MD of Merit Freight.  He also honoured all the participant of the contest.

President Naveen Sequeira proposed the vote of thanks thanking all the participants, sponsors and media representatives and they were honoured with floral bouquets.
