Saudi Arabia confirms Fasih’s detention

New Delhi, 30 Jun 2012: Saudi Arabia has officially communicated Indian authorities about the detention of Fasih Mohammed, allegedly involved in the Chinnaswamy stadium blast in Bangalore and the Jama Masjid shootout here.
Sources in the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) said Saudi Arabia has officially confirmed detention of the 28-year-old engineer from Bihar, who may be deported soon. Earlier, the Interpol had issued a Red Corner notice against Mohammad.
Sources informed that the CBI team is likely to visit Saud iArabia for Mohammed’s extradition. It was earlier reported that Mohammed went missing. His wife, Nikhat Parveen, had approached the Supreme Court claiming that her husband was held by central security agencies. Mohammed’s detention is another step forward in the cooperation extended by Saudi Arabia to India, that began with the arrest of 26/11 Mumbai attacks plotter Abu Jundal earlier this week. Though Gulf countries have been one of the favourite hideouts of Indian fugitives, cooperation in counter-terrorism measures and security issues between New Delhi and Riyadh started late.
