Nashik (Maha), 30 Jan 2013 (PTI): A constable, attached to Chalisgaon police station in Maharashtra’s Jalgaon district, was arrested for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 65 lakh from a private company official for a favour, a senior ACB officer said here today.
Police Naik Bipin Jagannath Tiwari was caught by ACB sleuths while allegedly accepting the bribe amount from the complainant last night near Old Naka area on Chalisgaon- Malegaon Road in Chalisgaon, ACB SP (Nashik) Shashikant Mahavarkar said.
According to ACB, the constable, apparently on behalf of his superiors, had allegedly demanded Rs one crore from the complainant--manager of a Pune-based private company--for not registering a complaint against the firm.
A citizen Ravindra Ashok Landage had sought to register the complaint against the company, which deals in the business of agricultural produce, alleging that it was carrying out transactions in contravention of RBI and SEBI guidelines and accepting term deposits from people."The accused initially demanded Rs one crore from the complainant, but settled for Rs 65 lakh," the SP added.
