Mumbai, 28 December 2011: Anna Hazare, who is down with viral fever, broke his three-day fast here a day earlier at the urging of doctors as his health was deteriorating.
The activist sipped a drink to break his fast at the MMRDA ground here Wednesday evening.
Hazare has also called off his nationwide ’Jail Bharo’ agitation from Dec 30, but said his fight against corruption would continue. Hazare, who announced earlier that he was curtailing his three-day fast, sipped from a glass around 6.40 p.m. and passed the glass to key Team Anna members Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia, who were also on fast along with him.
"I have called off my fast but my fight against corruption will continue," Hazare told the gathering here. The 74-year-old social activist also appealed to his supporters to call off their fast and support Team Anna in their fight for a strong Lokpal bill.
He vowed to campaign against the Congress in all the five states facing assembly elections early next year. On Tuesday night, the Lok Sabha passed the anti-graft Lokpal bill with several amendments following an over 10-hour debate.
Earlier in the day, doctors monitoring Hazare’s health urged him to call off his fast in view of his deteriorating condition due to viral fever.
