Lakhimpur, 12 June 2011: A 14-year old girl was found dead outside a police station in Lakhimpur in Uttar Pradesh, allegedly raped by the constables.
Eleven policemen were suspended immediately after the incident, but no arrests have taken place so far.
Tarannum and Intanzam Ali were in a vortex of despair after they found their daughter’s body tied to a tree in the police station. The girl was allegedly raped by several policemen and murdered, when she strayed into the thana premises while tending to cattle. Her inconsolable father and dazed mother aren’t quite sure how this devastating chain of events unravelled, but are sure that the policemen are guilty.
Her mother says that she saw that two policemen came out and threw her daughter’s body outside.
The state police has suspended all the 11 police officers and constables, including the SHO.
The police says those who have committed the crime will be punished. Such promises will sound hollow as the victim’s shell-shocked family confronts its worst nightmare.
