Delhi rape victim’s friend says ’cops kept fighting about jurisdiction’
New Delhi, 05 January 2013 (HT): The 28-year-old friend of the physiotherapist who died in a Singapore hospital after being brutally raped in a moving bus on December 16 said they had seen the worst faces of humanity and the police on that fateful evening.
“They wanted to run us over, to kill us,” the girl’s the girl’s friend told Zee News on Friday. “Three PCR vans reached us, saw us — just like so many people who were there. But the police kept fighting about jurisdiction and no one stepped forward to help us.”
He said he was aghast at the conduct of the female sub-divisional magistrate who recorded the victim’s statement as she writhed in pain.
“No one can imagine that a lady magistrate could have acted the way she did. The words she (my friend) uttered in all that pain. Why were these discredited?”
He said she didn’t want them to be hanged: “She wanted them to be burnt alive.”
Police plan to file a case against Zee News for airing the interview as the matter is sub judice.
