2G row: NDA to boycott PC in Winter Session

New Delhi, 22 November 2011: The BJP-led NDA has decided to boycott Home Minister P Chidambaram during the Winter Session of the Parliament till the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh forces him to resign. A decision to the effect was taken at a meeting of NDA leaders at the residence of BJP veteran LK Advani.

 

“It has been conclusively established that Chidambaram as the finance minister facilitated the 2G spectrum scam. The NDA has decided to boycott the Home Minister in the Parliament,” BJP deputy leader in Rajya Sabha SS Ahluwalia emerging from the meeting said.

 

The meeting was also attended by the BJP President Nitin Gadkari, NDA convenor and JD(U) leader Sharad Yadav, Shiv Sena leaders Manohar Joshi and Anant Geete and Shiromani Akali Dal’s Naresh Gujral, besides leaders of Opposition in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha Sushma Swaraj and Arun Jaitley.

 

 

The NDA meeting chalked out strategy to take on the government on a range of issues, including price rise and corruption, in the winter session of Parliament beginning on Tuesday.

 

The NDA is also to decide on whether to support the Left’s adjournment motion on price rise in Parliament. The NDA may also move a separate adjournment motion on the issue.

 

Earlier In the day, BJP parliamentary party met at the residence of Advani to formulate the party’s strategy in the forthcoming Parliament session.

 

Among those present at the meeting are party president Nitin Gadkari, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj, her counterpart from Rajya Sabha Arun Jaitely and Ananth Kumar.

 

The party would be finetuning its strategy to corner the government on various issues. Advani has already made the party’s intent clear when he targeted the PM over the issue.

 

The Lokpal Bill is also an issue which may be deliberated upon as the government has announced that it will introduce the bill in the Winter Session.

 

The issue of price rise may be also pondered upon in view of the Left’s announcement that it would move an adjournment motion over the same.
