Guwahati, 21 November 2011: An earthquake of magnitude 5.9 jolted the North-Eastern states at around 8.45 am on Monday morning. The tremors were also felt in Kolkata and Siliguri.

The quake was centred around 133 km from Imphal and its epicentre was 24.947°N, 95.226°E, in the neighbouring Myanmar, at a depth of 121 km from the surface. The depth of the epicentre resulted in lesser loss as compared to when it would be nearer the surface.

The quake was 137 km SE (125°) from Kohima, Nagaland, India and reports from the India-Myanmar border suggested no major loss of life and property.
